--------------------------
Call for patent disclosure:

- No one declared a patent.

-----
Opens:

- Radek having some trouble with LiveMeeting

- Arpad, Walter and Randy discussed connectivity ideas at DesignCon
  - We decided not to go into this now

- Michael M: where do we draw the line on 5.0?
  - Will discuss today

-------------
Review of ARs:

- Mike L. link to ICM BIRD on ATM web page
  - Done, but actually an IIRD

- David Banas report Xilinx position on LTI assumption for SerDes
  - TBD

- Randy will investigate the JESD79-3a Tvac 57/75 "typo"
  - Done, but email not sent
  - Was "done by committee".
  - Members do not recall why it was done that way.

- AMI BIRD authors meet to prove AMI BIRD can handle Mellitz cases
  - Todd: we need real part data
  - We decided to leave this AR on the list.

- Walter coordinate completion of true diff BIRD draft
  - In progress

- Michael M. draft Eye keywords for true diff BIRD
  - In progress

- Randy draft derating keywords for true diff BIRD
  - In progress

- Arpad: Write parameter passing syntax proposal (BIRD draft)
for *-AMS models in IBIS that is consistent with the
parameter passing syntax of the AMI models
  - TBD

- TBD: Propose a parameter passing syntax for the SPICE
  - [External ...] also?
  - TBD

- Arpad: Review the documentation (annotation) in the macro libraries.
  - Deferred until a demand arises or we have nothing else to do

-------------
New Discussion:

Discussion of IBIS 5 content:
- Michael M showed his slide about IBIS 5 from the recent summit.
- Arpad: will we follow the model of quick minor releases like 4.0, 4.1, 4.2?
  - This would allow us to leave some things out of 5.0
  - Michael M: that was not our normal practice
    - We lose money on minor releases by not charging for the parser code
- Arpad: Which changes are important?
  - Improved Differential Measurements
  - ICM-IBIS linking
- Todd: Whatever we can do quickly would be good
- Bob: we could have a small 5.0 release to get parser work started.
  - We could also defer GEIA ratification until later
  - Hemant: what are the drawbacks of not standardizing?
  - Mike L: Part and tool vendors would have to agree
- Bob: we could also have only ratified major releases
  - Funding would improve
  - Might not be a great idea
- Bob: Residual parser sales have brought in more money for future work
  - Michael M: 4.1 took almost all of our money
  - We might increase the fee to something like $4000
- Bob: Other 5.0 ideas:
  - EBD-based interconnect BIRD
  - Power Delivery System BIRD
- Arpad: Maybe there are interim solutions that could go into 5.0
  - Michael M:Some people are seeing the pin list as the only value in IBIS
    - Package models are bad
    - New buffer alternatives are appearing
  - For stacked die the 1-to-1 assumption is a problem
    - We may be looking at a restructed spec, not a patch.
- Michael M: We might use IBIS only for buffers, ICM for packages
  - Bob: S-param calls
  - Michael M: Are we getting away from a single file solution too quickly?
    - AMI uses multiple files
  - Bob: EBD could be the top level file
- Arpad: Walter suggested we could have differential measurements quickly
  - This might result in debate over multiple paths
(Mike L loses phone connection for a few minutes)

Arpad: when can we discuss diff meas?
- Walter will not be back until Feb 20
- We will "play it by ear"

Hemant: Who will propose 5.0 steps to open forum?
- Bob: We aren't ready yet
- Michael M: It has to be packaged into a BIRD proposal, syntactically correct
  - Then it is announced, with calls for comment

Mike L: We could pay more up front for parser work with a "maintenance contract"
- This avoids the end of year funding carryover problem
- Bob: Each parser release funds future work
  - We could pay at end of year for future work

Next meeting: (not certain) 19 Feb 2007 12:00pm PT
